There has been more information made available regarding the Creation of WOAA 'A' Zone Shared Boundary pilot.
Zone Update
On August 5, the minor hockey associations of WOAA met to sign the Memorandum of Understanding for the Zone Hockey trial to take place for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 hockey seasons. This change will have our representative hockey teams being formed with players from 6 zones now established by the WOAA. Our zone will consist of the hockey associations of Huron-Bruce, Kincardine and Wingham. The transition will begin this spring after our season has concluded and we will begin play in September 2025 under this new organization. This trial will not affect our local league players or our girls hockey teams.
There are a great deal of items to be worked out from the framework agreement posted on our website. Our first act of business will be to establish the zone committee and begin the planning process for the zone and next season. Each hockey association will have equal representation on the zone committee and play a part in establishing the zone's operation. This is a 2 year trial - the first of a kind in the OMHA - and this will allow our association to remain intact and avoid costly amalgamations.
As this progresses, we intend to keep everyone informed as much as we can.
